Appliance and Furniture Hauling in Northern Arizona
Appliances and furniture are the two things most likely to strand a homeowner mid-project. The new refrigerator arrives Thursday, the old one is still in the kitchen, and the delivery crew won’t take it. That’s the call we get most often — and the one AZ Haul is built for. We do the heavy lifting, the stairs, and the disposal so you don’t throw your back out or clog your garage.
Appliances we take
Refrigerators and freezers, washers and dryers, dishwashers, ranges and cooktops, wall ovens, microwaves, water heaters, furnaces, window and wall air conditioners, and swamp coolers. We handle the disconnection of simple plug-in units, and because refrigerators and freezers contain refrigerant, we route them for proper, EPA-compliant recovery rather than dumping them curbside.
Furniture we haul
Sofas and sectionals, recliners, mattresses and box springs, bed frames, dressers, desks, dining sets, bookshelves, entertainment centers, and patio furniture. Whatever won’t fit in your vehicle or down your stairs, we’ll carry out — no need to drag it to the curb yourself.
Just one item? Try prepaid curbside
If you’ve only got a single item — say an old mattress or a dresser — and you don’t want to hit our standard job minimum, we offer a prepaid curbside pickup that starts at $89. Set the item at the curb, book ahead online or by phone, and we grab it on your area’s route day. It’s the budget-friendly option for one-off pickups. Just note it is not same-day: every area has a set weekly route day, and you book by 5 PM the day before.
Two different services, two different prices. Prepaid curbside is for people who just want something gone cheap and are not in a hurry: you pay up front, the item is already outside where we can reach it from the truck, and we grab it on your area’s route day — there is no appointment window. If you want a set day, a set time, or you want us to carry the item out of the house or down the stairs, that is our standard single-item service, which starts at $150 in the Flagstaff area.
Same-day full-service too
Need it gone today and hauled from inside the house? Our standard same-day service covers that across Flagstaff. Appliance and furniture removal pairs well with our estate & garage cleanouts and residential junk removal.
Serving Flagstaff and nearby towns
We cover Flagstaff plus Kachina Village, Munds Park, Sedona, and the Village of Oak Creek — see the full service area.

Furniture Hauling Done Right, From the Living Room to the Right Destination
Good furniture hauling is more than muscle. It’s knowing how to get a sleeper sofa down a split-level staircase without gouging the drywall, which pieces a local charity will actually take, and which ones are headed for recycling or the landfill. AZ Haul is a veteran-owned, locally owned crew based in Bellemont, and we’ve been moving big, awkward things out of homes across Northern Arizona since 2022.
Below is a closer look at how we handle the heavy stuff, what the rules are for fridges and freezers, and how you can get your home ready so the job goes fast.
What Our Furniture Hauling Covers
If it’s bulky, heavy, or just won’t fit in your SUV, it’s probably a good fit for us. Most furniture hauling jobs we see fall into a few groups.
Sofas, sectionals, and recliners
Sectionals are usually built to come apart, and we’ll separate the pieces before carrying them out. Power recliners and lift chairs are heavier than they look because of the motors and steel frames, so we bring enough hands for the job. Sleeper sofas get strapped shut so the mechanism doesn’t unfold on the stairs.
Mattresses and bed frames
Mattresses, box springs, headboards, and metal or wood frames are some of the most common items we pick up. We take frames apart on site when that’s the easiest way out of a bedroom. Mattresses in good, clean condition are rare donation candidates, so plan on most of them being recycled or disposed of.
Dressers, armoires, and entertainment centers
Solid wood case goods are heavy and easy to scratch walls with. We pull drawers before lifting, which cuts the weight and keeps them from sliding out mid-carry. Big entertainment centers and wall units sometimes have to be broken down to make it through a doorway, and we’ll talk with you before we do that.
Heavy and oversized pieces
We handle heavy items like gun safes, solid-wood tables, treadmills and home-gym equipment, chest freezers, and other pieces that take two or more people to move. Every heavy piece gets looked at before we lift it so we can plan the path, the number of crew members, and the equipment. If something is beyond what we can move safely, we’ll tell you up front rather than risk your home or our crew.
Appliance Removal and the Refrigerant Rules
Appliances are part of most of our furniture hauling calls: a fridge in the garage, a washer and dryer that got replaced, a range that’s been sitting on the patio. Most of these are mostly steel and get routed to scrap metal recycling.
Refrigerators, freezers, window AC units, dehumidifiers, and water coolers are different because they contain refrigerant. Under federal rules, the refrigerant has to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped or disposed of. The EPA’s guidance on appliance disposal explains that the final disposer is responsible for that recovery, and that hazardous parts like mercury switches and compressor oil should be removed too. That’s why we never just drop a fridge at a curbside pile. It goes to a destination that handles the recovery properly.
A few tips for appliances:
- Empty and clean out fridges and freezers a day or two ahead, and leave the doors propped open so they can dry out.
- Unplug simple plug-in appliances ahead of time if you can reach the outlet safely.
- Shut off the water supply to washers, ice makers, and dishwashers before we arrive.
- Gas ranges and dryers should be disconnected and capped by a qualified person before pickup. We don’t do gas line work.
Stairs, Tight Hallways, and Tricky Access
Northern Arizona homes are full of furniture hauling challenges. Cabins in Kachina Village and Munds Park often have narrow stairs and tight landings. Sedona homes can have steep driveways and long walks from where the truck can park. Older Flagstaff houses have doorways that were sized long before anyone owned a 100-inch sectional.
Here’s how we handle it:
- We plan the route first. Before anything moves, we look at turns, door swings, railings, and anything fragile along the way.
- We protect the house. Doors come off their hinges when needed, and we take care around banisters, flooring, and door frames.
- We disassemble when it makes sense. Legs, cushions, headboards, mirrors, and hutch tops come off to make pieces lighter and smaller.
- We send enough people. Heavy items on stairs are a two- or three-person job, every time.
When you ask for a quote, a few photos of the item and the path out (stairs, hallway, front door, driveway) help us show up with the right plan.
Donate, Recycle, or Landfill: Where Your Furniture Goes
We take a donation and recycling first approach on every furniture hauling job. Not everything qualifies, but a surprising amount of what we pick up gets a second life or gets broken down into materials.
| Item condition | Where it usually goes |
|---|---|
| Clean, usable furniture with no tears, stains, pet damage, or broken parts | Local donation partners when they’re accepting that type of item |
| Metal frames, appliances, exercise equipment, file cabinets | Scrap metal recycling (refrigerant appliances after proper recovery) |
| TVs, monitors, and other electronics | E-waste recycling |
| Worn, broken, or heavily stained upholstery and most mattresses | Landfill, after anything recyclable is pulled |
If you want to handle some of it yourself, the City of Flagstaff keeps a helpful guide to where to take different kinds of waste, and Coconino County publishes a county-wide recycling guide that covers drop-off options outside city limits. Leftover paint, cleaners, and chemicals that turn up during a move belong at the city’s Hazardous Products Center, not in a load of furniture.
How to Prep for Your Furniture Hauling Pickup
You don’t have to do much, but a little prep saves time on the day of the job.
- Empty drawers and cabinets. Check dressers, nightstands, desks, and entertainment centers for papers, jewelry, and keepsakes.
- Clear a path. Move rugs, plants, and small furniture out of the way between the item and the door.
- Mark what stays. If only some of the furniture in a room is going, tape a note on the pieces we should leave alone.
- Handle the utilities. Unplug what you can, shut off water lines, and have gas appliances disconnected ahead of time.
- Think about parking. Let us know about HOA rules, gate codes, or narrow streets so we can plan where the truck goes.
- Let us know about pets. Doors will be open while we carry things out, so it’s best to keep dogs and cats in a closed room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to carry anything outside before you arrive?
No. Our full-service furniture hauling means we lift and carry items from wherever they are in the house, including basements, upstairs bedrooms, and garages. You just point.
Can you take a refrigerator that still has food in it?
Please empty it first. Food makes a mess during transport and creates odor problems for recycling. Emptying it a day or two early and leaving the doors open is ideal.
Will you take apart my bed or sectional?
Yes. We regularly disassemble bed frames, sectionals, desks, and other pieces that are easier to move in parts. If something has to be cut down to fit through a doorway, we’ll check with you first.
Can you guarantee my couch gets donated?
We can’t promise a specific outcome because donation partners decide what they’ll accept based on condition and their current needs. Clean pieces with no damage have the best chance, and we always try donation and recycling before the landfill.
Do you serve areas outside Flagstaff?
Yes. We handle furniture hauling in Flagstaff, Sedona, Williams, the Verde Valley, and nearby communities like Bellemont, Parks, Doney Park, Kachina Village, Mountainaire, Munds Park, and the Village of Oak Creek.
When can you come out?
We run 8 AM to 6 PM, seven days a week, so weekend pickups are normal for us. Quotes are always free.
